Default How To Get Scanned Photos onto a Web Page

# First you need to get the photo from it's analog (printed) state to a digital state. If you have the option of getting your photos printed to a photo CD, then you can avoid this step. Otherwise, you'll need to find a scanner and scan in the photo onto your computer.
# Resize the image
Most scanners come with photo retouching software, and when you scan an image onto your computer, it usually is much too large for a Web page (both in dimensions and file size). Your photos should be no larger than:

* 620 pixels wide
* 460 pixels high
* 10-20 Kb

# Convert the photo to JPEG
Use your photo retouching software to save the photo as a JPeG (.jpg). Photos should always be in JPeG format. This keeps the gradation of colors in the photos and makes them look better. Also, JPeG photos will nearly always be smaller in file size than the same photo saved as a GIF.
# Write or edit your Web page
Add the image to your Web page HTML by following the instructions on my article Adding Links to Web Pages.
# Upload the Image and the Web page
Make sure that you upload the image into the same directory that you used in your HTML. You must upload images in binary mode, if you upload them in ASCII mode, they will not work. For more help on uploading, read my article Uploading Your Pages.
# Test your page
Make sure that before you send the page URL to your friends and family that you test it to make sure that the image is live and works correctly.
